Valley of the Kings Tickets

The Valley of the Kings ticket is EGP 750 for three tombs; Tutankhamun is EGP 700 extra, Seti I EGP 2,000. Which tombs a Hurghada day trip covers (Oct 2026).

Updated October 2026

The standard Valley of the Kings ticket costs EGP 750 for a foreign adult and opens three of the tombs that are open that day; Tutankhamun’s tomb (EGP 700), Seti I’s (EGP 2,000) and the tomb of Ramses V and VI (EGP 220) are sold separately. Those are the prices on the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ site, egymonuments.gov.eg, in October 2026; students pay half on the standard ticket (EGP 375). The small-group day trips from Hurghada list the standard ticket as included. Whether a tour includes Tutankhamun depends on the tour: Ranco Travel’s Luxor Tour with Valley of the Kings and Tutankhamun does, from US$93 a person in current promotion (usually US$98) (checked October 2026), rated 4.9 from 2,873 reviews.

The ministry’s page gives the price, not the tomb count, and the tombs open to visitors rotate, because tombs close in turn for conservation. In practice the standard ticket opens three tombs from those open on the day. Your guide will choose three from the open list or let you pick at the gate.

Is Tutankhamun’s tomb worth EGP 700?

It is the most famous tomb in the valley and one of the plainest. Tutankhamun’s tomb is small, and only the burial chamber is painted; the ministry’s own description calls it “quite modest compared to the other tombs on this site”. What it has that no other tomb has is the king himself: his mummy is still in the tomb, in a glass case. The golden mask and the rest of the treasure are in the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, which opened in full on 1 November 2025.

More Tours from Hurghada and Luxor

If Luxor in a day is not the plan, these are the other trips and tours on sale around Hurghada and Luxor, with their own dates and cancellation terms.

So if seeing Tutankhamun is the reason you are going, pay for it, or book a tour that includes it. If you want the most painted walls for your money, the tomb of Ramses V and VI costs less than a third as much and is enormous, its ceilings covered in the books of the sky. Guests this October agree: a British guest called the Ramses tombs “spectacular and much quieter than the others you visit”, and a German guest wrote that you could skip Tutankhamun’s (“kann man sich schenken”) but not the Ramses tomb.

Read the option before you pay. A Dutch guest on the small-group day this October found that selecting the Tutankhamun option was not enough: “you also need to select it under extra options! It has an extra charge.” And two guests who had booked without the extra tombs bought those tickets themselves at the valley and found it cheaper than the operator’s add-on; one wrote that it saved about 60%.

How long you get in the valley

On a day trip from Hurghada, about an hour and a half to two hours: Ranco Travel’s listing allows two hours in the valley plus 20 minutes in Tutankhamun’s tomb, and FTS Travels’ an hour and a half. That is enough for three tombs and one extra with the walking in between. From the visitor centre a small electric cart runs up to the tombs; a British guest this October paid 25 Egyptian pounds a person for it, on top of the ticket, so keep some small notes. Inside the tombs it is warm and still even in winter, so the what to wear guide is worth a look before an October or April trip.

The tombs a day trip does not reach

Nefertari’s tomb, often called the most beautiful in Egypt, is in the Valley of the Queens, a separate site a few kilometres south, with its own ticket, and none of the Hurghada day trips in this guide goes there. Nor do they reach Medinet Habu or the tombs of the nobles. They are what a night in Luxor is for.
